# How to Receive a Voice Message from a Shape

> Want to hear your Shape speak? Once you’ve set up a voice, your Shape can reply with audio messages to make conversations more interactive.

## Getting a Voice Message from Your Shape

There are three ways to receive a voice reply:

### 1. Set Up a Voice & Response Frequency

* After enabling voice responses and selecting a voice, adjust the **Voice Response Frequency** slider.
* Your Shape will automatically begin including voice messages in its replies based on the frequency you set.
  * Example: At **0.5 (50%)**, your Shape will respond with audio about half the time.

</Tip>

### 2. Send Your Shape a Voice Message

* Simply record and send a **voice message** to your Shape.
* The Shape will respond with its **default voice** (even if you haven’t adjusted the settings).

### 3. Read Out Loud

* Click the **three-dot menu** next to any Shape message and select **“Read Out Loud.”**
* The message will play using the Shape’s configured voice.
* If the Shape doesn’t have a custom voice set up, a default one will be used.
* If the action requires credits or access on your account, Shapes will show a banner before it plays.
* **Why it’s useful:** Hear messages that aren’t audio, or listen to a Shape that hasn’t set up a custom voice.

## Tips

* **Want more audio replies?** Increase the frequency setting or use the read out loud feature.
* **Prefer text + audio?** Enable **transcripts** in the voice settings so you get both formats in replies.
* **Haven’t set up a custom voice yet?** Your Shape will still use a default voice until you configure one.
